Topic One “Meditation” – Lesson Four

Comming soon…

Topic One “Meditation” – Lesson Three

Now that we have went over most of the basic part of meditation its time to move onto the more exiting parts. We are now going to move onto visualising during meditations.

When your meditating especially to keep yourself positive it can be hard when your only thinking about breathing sometimes. One solution to this is thinking about peaceful things when you meditate. When you are mediation to cool of after an angry fight or a long rubbish day thinking of a nice warm beach and listening to the sound of the waves can be very helpful. All you have to do is picture yourself there.

Visualising only needs your imagination. Just imagine a very peaceful place. Visualise the sounds, the scenery, and the smell. Below I will place some examples you might like to try out.

On the beach, listen to the water flowing, feel the heat of the warm sun and the sand. Listen to the birds chirping and the kids playing. Smell the peace in the air.

In the rainforest, listen to the sounds of the animals and the rain hitting of the leaves. Feel the leaves brush against your skin as you walk through the forest. Feel the water dripping on you from above its not to cold or to hot.

Above are a few examples that may help you. But remember all you need is your imagination. If you have any trouble with this lesson or you have any questions feel free to contact me.

Topic One “Meditation” – Lesson Two

Now that you have learned a little about why Jedi meditate we will now go onto meditation posture.

Meditation is a very open thing to do. Mediation can be done in many different ways. Although meditation has a wide range of exercises it also has a lot of different ways to meditate. When it comes to meditation the first thing you need to when learning how to meditate is posture. There are many different positions to meditate. These positions are

. Sitting

. Lying

. Standing

. Kneeling

Sitting

When it comes to sitting there are two ways to do it. This can be done by sitting on a chair or sitting cross legged on the floor or whatever you are sitting on. When you do any meditation it is important to keep your back strait. This makes it easier to breathe. When sitting on a chair the way this should be done is with legs about shoulder length apart flat on the floor and arms on your knees, also keeping your back strait. This makes a good posture to meditate in.

When sitting cross legged there a few different ways to do so. It would be best if you used a cushion as it makes it a little easier to meditate. When sitting cross legged the most common way to do it would be the lotus, half lotus or even quartet lotus posture. A full lotus is when the right foot is placed over the right thigh and the left foot over the right thigh. The half lotus is where one foot is opposite one thigh and the other lies under the other thigh. The quarter lotus is where one foot goes under one thigh and the other foot lies on the opposite calf. The other posture to try one is just to site comfortable with legs crossed.

Lying

Lying down is one of the uncommon postures in meditation but I tend to use it sometimes especially before I go to sleep. When meditating lying down you should have your hands by your sides and your legs shoulder length apart. You may find this posture harder to do because you’re lying down but eventually it comes quite easy.

Standing

When standing to meditate this can become hard especially if you have problems with your knees or feet, I do not recommend doing this posture if you have these problems. When meditating standing up its best to have either your hands by your side or behind your back. If they are behind your back its best to hold one hand in the other, keep your legs about shoulder length apart if not a little wider. While standing it should be quite easy to breathe as your body is strait giving easy passage to inhale and exhale. If you feel you become dizzy or light headed when doing this meditation I suggest you stop or change meditation posture.

Kneeling

Much like standing if you have bad knees I do not recommend this posture. When kneeling it’s much similar to standing. Keep your knees not to close together but not to far apart. It’s best to keep your hands on your knees or behind your back. This makes meditation a little more comfortable. Keep your back strait and if you feel your knees are getting sore it would be good to stop or change posture.

Now that we have looked over the meditation postures it’s time for the assignment. This assignment is a simple and easy. The next time you meditate change your posture and try out one of the others. Once you have tried a different posture try another the next time and the last posture the next time. At the end of this assignment you will have meditated with each of the above postures.

If you have any questions or would like to talk about this lesson feel free to send me an email or a comment.

Topic One “Meditation” – Lesson One

Now that you have done the introduction you get a little taste of what meditation is. So now we are going to go over why Jedi meditate, and we are going to try a new meditation.  Below is an article I have written about why Jedi meditate.

When walking the Jedi path you will eventually come across meditation. I always found that meditation comes very early on in the Jedi path. But meditation is done not just by Jedi but lots of different people. People such as Taoist’s and Buddhist’s, even some other religious people such as Christians, Muslims and more. But not just religious people, people who don’t follow a religion can meditate. But on the Jedi path the big question is, why do Jedi mediate?

Jedi meditate for a number of reasons. These reasons are,

. To clear the mind for training

. To clear the mind of negative emotions

. To find answers within themselves

. To feel the force

. To relax your mind, body and spirit

. To keep themselves at peace

Clearing the mind for training

Every day as a Jedi is a day for training and learning even for Jedi Masters. We are constantly learning and developing our minds. A Jedi student especially needs to do this because he or she is undergoing the main stage of training (learning all the basics etc). A Jedi should have a clear mind for training so they have focus. Without focus a Jedi may be easily distracted or may lead them to wander off topic. This may cause a Jedi to miss out on something important. If the mind is clear then it is easier to take in more information and understand it.

Clearing the mind of negative emotions

A Jedi should have a peaceful state of mind. A Jedi should be keeping emotions such as happiness, harmony, serenity etc. However a Jedi should not be keeping emotions such as hate, anger, aggression etc as this leads down the dark path. If a Jedi is to keep a healthy mind and stay at peace then he or she must meditate to let go of negative emotions and maintain positive ones.

To find answers within themselves

When a Jedi is confused about something and is looking for some answers he or she will look to the will of the Force. Sometimes a Jedi may find it hard to concentrate on their feelings while wandering about, so a Jedi should meditate to clear the mind and listen to their feelings. Since the will of the force speaks to us through our feelings it can also help us find answers. When a Jedi is calm at peace he or she may find the answers he or she is looking for.

To feel the Force

A Jedi Knight or Master should be able to feel the Force when they need to (experienced Jedi) however a Student may not have such a strong connection. Meditation helps a student develop their connection with the Force and feel it more often. Not just Students but Knights and Masters need to keep their connection strong therefore meditation is needed. Meditation helps a Jedi become aware of the Force and its flow. Without meditation it would be very hard to have a strong connection.

To relax the mind body and spirit

A Jedi may feel tired or worn out at the end of a day for some reason and may need to refresh themselves. This way meditation can help relax the body, mind and spirit. Mediation helps let go of tension in the body and mind. And the spirit can become relax from the body and mind relaxing. A Jedi should be relaxed in all of these, and mediation is one of the best ways to do so.

To keep themselves at peace

A Jedi should always keep the self at peace. This is important as if we are not at peace it is harder to control our inner darkness. Mediation can keep a Jedi at peace as it stills the mind. Relax the body and the mind. This keeps Jedi calm at peace.

Meditation is very important and a Jedi should mediate often. Without mediation a Jedi can lessen them self and do worse than they can potentially do. A Jedi is a keeper of the peace therefore mediation maintains a piece to that puzzle.

Now that you have read the article above you should know a little about why Jedi meditate. So now we move to the assignment that follows up from the lesson. Below is a meditation to try out that is connected with 2 of the above reasons. To clear the head of negative emotions and to keep yourself at peace. Below is the meditation to try out. If you have any problems or questions etc feel free to contact me.

This meditation will benefit you if you are having a tough time and are full with emotions such as anger, hate, depression, stress etc. This meditation can be done lying down or sitting down or standing up. If you are lying down keep your legs relaxed arms by your side and body relaxed. If you are sitting down your legs relaxed cross if you feel its better. If you are standing arms behind your back one hand holding the other, legs shoulder length apart.

Control your breathing but keep it so you can relax. Keep it controlled. When you inhale think of good thoughts happy thoughts and visualise them as white smoke. When you exhale breath out bad thoughts and emotions and visualise them as black smoke. When you feel at peace and happy, visualise every inhale and exhale as water. Focus on it flowing through you in and out.

When you open your eyes don’t make to strong movements. Let your body gradually get use to taking strong movements. Meditations relaxes your body, if you make to strong movements it’s too big of a change in your body. Take it easy. Don’t do this meditation for longer than 25 minutes.

Topic One “Meditation” – Introduction to Meditation

We are going to start of by doing a very basic meditation. I am going to give you my easiest meditation that I did when I first started. It’s very simple and easy to do. It is a simple breathing exercise that should only take you 5 – 10 minutes. If you have any problems and need help please contact me and I will assist you.

Lie or sit down comfortably. Breathe in and hold for five seconds. Breathe out and hold for five seconds. Repeat this for about 5 to 10 minutes. Focus on the warm air entering your body. Don’t try and move it just notice it and see what it does. Not this down and do the meditation morning and night.

This meditation will not be as intense or mind-blowing as it is just taking notice of your breathing so do not be disappointed if it was not what you expected. Throughout the lessons you will see the meditations become more complex and intense. tomorrow we will do another meditation not much harder but a little bit more complex. For now enjoy and The Force be with you
